In 2006 FortisAlberta announced a 5 year $200,000 corporate sponsorship of our wildlife rescue and conservation efforts. In addtition to this generous financial support what we have come to appreciate about FortisAlberta is the sincere interest of their employees in both our facility and the welfare of the birds.
As a publicly regulated utility FortisAlberta is responsible for more than 60 per cent of Alberta's total electric distribution network and 106,000 kilometres of power lines, While FortisAlberta's focus is the safe and reliable delivery of electricity to its more than 448,000 customers in 175 growing communities across southern and central Alberta, they also want to do everything possible to protect birds that might be impacted by power lines.
This is a win-win partnership for our organization and the environment of Alberta. On a number of occasions Fortis Alberta personnel have sought our input for design and implementation of bird related safety features to their power lines. It is wonderful to see a company such as Fortis Alberta demonstrating its support of the environment in such a sincere and meaningful way.
